  1. Everybody calm down. An American player abroad scored a nice goal. That’s what happened here. Enjoy it. Who cares if it “knuckled” enough or if the marking maybe wasn’t airtight? Most of our guys over there are sitting on the bench, playing in the lower divisions, or recovering from ACL jobs.

    • I’ve expressed my happiness in the goal; I also disagreed that it was GOTY worth, that is all.

  2. Haha always funny reading the comment section on these. A bunch of keyboard pros, that have probably never played a level above AYSO, and critique players like they are hall of famers. Unreal, dude just bent in a rocket from 40 yards out. It’s hard to get that on frame, let alone beat a keeper from that distance.

    • did you ever play soccer? not trying to be rude but UNMAKRED that’s not ridiculously hard for a player on that level to do. they do it all the time before/after practice or games etc. I’m far from a hall of famer but BRUH, let’s give that goal two happy thumbs up, not a lifetime achievement award, that’s all i’m saying, it’s not the best goal I’ve seen this year. he had no one within 15 yards, no one even approaching him, he took two running dribbles to gain power and connected well. had there been a good sequence of passing, or a nice piece of dribbling, or blowing by someone to hit a shot that beats an actual in-position GK (he technically got beat near post ) then sure but, he just looked up, did his taxes, order an escort for the club later and ripped a fun shot. I’m happy, you should be too.

      happy mother’s day

      • I played D-1 soccer, actually, but I digress. I never proclaimed it as the Goal of the Year or even Goal of the Day. I just said it was a quality strike, and it doesn’t deserve some of hypercritical comments.

      • hypocritical comments? i just don’t think it’s the greatest goal ever, mostly because he was unmarked for so long with no one even attempting to close him down. the gk was out of position; essentially he hit a great strike but there were other factors that lowered the degree of difficulty. i’m not throwing hate at him or anyone. i just feel differently than some. there were no hypocritical comments.

      • MLS defenders are not as technical or strategically astute as the defenders in Eredivisie, but MLS does do a very good job of closing down offensive players (aka hustle). However, that being said, Eredivisie players can dribble through MLS defenders or move the ball around to find space better than MLS players.

for 30 years we’ve had little talent and all heart; the national embodiment of “Rudy”, lol. slowly we are gaining in the talent department. eventually we will be a top country, eventually.

      • “… eventually we will be a top country, eventually.”

With the current system in place, not likely….

      • If you mean the system that has produced a majority of the current professional players, then maybe. BUt if you think that the same youth system that produced Landon Donovan, Carlos Bocanegra, etc, is the same system in place today, you’re incredibly wrong. Youth development is better than it has ever been in this country – though still not perfect – and we’re already seeing the benefits of it with MLS Academy guys getting time, getting goals, getting call ups… Turns out the future is bright, my friend.

I think you’re overstating the impact MLS Academies have had so far.

  3. I’ve heard defense is relaxed in the Erdivise, and the lack of pressure there pretty much agrees with it.

“Let’s just let their No. 9 sit about 30 yards out. We won’t pressure him. Hell, we’ll give him 10-15 yards of cushion just to make sure he has the space he needs to curl it over our heads. Might as well screen the keeper, too , eh lads?”

    • You still generally do not expect a guy to hit from 30 yards out.

And when a guy hits from 30 yards out, you don’t expect him to bend it like that.

That ball was almost Beckham-esque. They absolutely did not pressure him…but that ain’t easy to do. Usually when you camp at the 25 you’re pretty safe.

      • fair enough, i agree its a great goal, i just strongly disagree that it’s GOTY worthy; perhaps on a US relative level but even then…

        po-tay-toe / po-tah-toe

    • I know,we’re all waiting…it would be nice for him to uncork a couple for the nats. He hasn’t been fully fit and healthy in a while…hopefully he’s peaking just in time for the GC.
