Stopping a penalty kick can swing momentum. Stopping two can win you a game.

David Ousted accomplished that rare feat of stopping a pair of spot kicks in one match on Saturday, and his performance in goal helped the Vancouver Whitecaps pick up a 2-1 road win over the 10-man New York Red Bulls. Ousted came up in the clutch to deny Bradley Wright-Phillips on attempts from 12 yards out on each side of halftime, and was the clearcut winner for the SBI MLS Player of the Week award as a result.

Ousted stoned Wright-Phillips just five minutes into the match to keep the game scoreless, and did so again in the 65th minute to preserve Vancouver’s one-goal lead. The Whitecaps goalkeeper also made two other saves in the game to help his club come out on top.

Ousted beat out David Villa, Gyasi Zardes, Chris Rolfe, and Matias Perez-Garcia for this week’s Player of the Week honors.

What did you think of Ousted’s performance? Which MLS Player impressed you the most in Week 16?
