After departing the Seattle Sounders last August, DeAndre Yedlin is set to take on MLS opposition once again.

Tottenham has announced the list of players traveling to the United States for the 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 29 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO.

Spurs’ roster includes former the Sounder and current U.S. Men’s National Team defender/winger Yedlin, who featured for the U.S. in Saturday’s Gold Cup third-place game loss to Panama.

Expected to feature will be regulars Harry Kane, Kyle Walker and Christian Eriksen, while new signings Toby Alderweireld, Kevin Wimmer, Kieran Trippier and Dele Alli are expected to make their official Tottenham debuts. Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is not expected to see much action as he recovers from a broken wrist, while Michael Vorm projects as the starter.

Here’s a closer look at Tottenham’s roster for Wednesday’s game:

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR ROSTER:

Goalkeepers: Hugo Lloris, Michel Vorm, Luke McGee, Tom Glover

Defenders: Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, DeAndre Yedlin, Danny Rose, Ben Davies, Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier, Kevin Wimmer, Jan Vertonghen, Federico Fazio

Midfielders: Nabil Bentaleb, Harry Winks, Mousa Dembele, Josh Onomah, Christian Eriksen, Nacer Chadli, Tom Carroll, Dele Alli, Erik Lamela

Forwards: Harry Kane, Shaq Coulthirst

What do you think of Tottenham’s roster? How do you see the MLS squad matching up?

  1. Small data point about MLS: My best friend isn’t a “soccer fan” but in the middle of a post-work drink he randomly says “Isn’t the MLS All-Star game on tomorrow night?” Just about floored me.

  2. Interested to see if Spurs still see him as a RB? If so I think maybe they keep him around, if not loan him out to work on his attacking skills.

  3. Yedlin should go on loan with a Championship side or newly promoted side. Get him some minutes with less pressure than Spurs vying for fourth. Tripper should be good enough to push Walker or spell him during injury.

  4. He will not play much with Tottenham this season. They are “featuring” him in this game to appeal to American fans. Bayern Munich did the same with Julian Green last year, and look how that worked out for him…

    • Perhaps I’m being too much of an optimist but while you mention it: Julian did get some playing time with Bayern in China these last couple weeks (including a 90 minute performance). Looks like not all is lost in their eyes.

      • There is no reason to think Bayern has lost faith in Green.

Rummenigge has pretty vocal about acknowledging that Hamburg was a messed up place and that helped make the loan a cluster.

The big issue at this point seems to be whether they will loan him out. However this is an important year for Green regardless of where he plays since his mentor Guardiola has only a year left.

Julian needs to make a good impression before Pep leaves.

      • Given Green’s reported refusal to train/play with the reserves for Hamburg last season, I would guess that a loan to a 2nd division level team where he can better compete for starter minutes, would be best. The jump from a 4th division team (a lower level 1st division team, at that) to a 1st division team to compete for starter minutes proved to be overly optimistic.

Hope that Green is loaned out to a team/division that is more suitable to his current development level so that he can progress to eventually compete to become an international level player for the USMNT.

  5. I noticed when Yedlin came on in a Spurs PL game for a cameo no-one looked to give him the ball when we were struggling. Now that told me he was not considered a threat by Spurs players, a game changer etc.
I thought he defended really well not getting on the wrong side of a player like Walker does in the box
It will be down to who,s got the best engine and Walker is great at fouling but was so poor on basics

We need crosses like Dier, they say Trippier good at this

I would like Yedlin to burn up the pitch in a winger role, just to see real pace and go on the outside hint hint Townsend , Lamela

  6. Will Spurs actually keep him this season, or is this some double-layered irony where the fans buy tickets in part to see a touring “Spurs’ Yedlin” when the team is actually looking for a loan deal.

    • Seems like he’s the #3 RB option at this point so hopefully he goes on loan somewhere and plays a lot instead of riding the pine or playing the U21s.
