Despite rumors of record bids, Thomas Muller isn’t going anywhere.

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says he believes that Muller “will never leave Bayern Munich,” even though the forward has been the subject of numerous rumors this summer. Linked with a move to Manchester United, Muller’s future, Rummenigge says, is at Bayern, a club he signed with until 2019.

“Thomas Muller is not for sale,” Rummenigge said. “I have the feeling that Thomas will never leave FC Bayern. He feels great here. When Thomas retires one day, we’d like to integrate him into the club, if he wants to do.

“We have already accounted for it last year, at that time he had contract for another three years. Ahead of time, we prolonged it for another two years, and increased his salary. The one thing does not rule out the other. Let’s wait and see.”

Here are some more news and notes to kick off your Wednesday morning:

CAVANI BANNED TWO GAMES FOR COPA AMERICA INCIDENT

Edinson Cavani has not been spared punishment for his incident at the Copa America, no matter the provocation.

Cavani has been suspended for Uruguay’s next two World Cup qualifiers for his role in a confrontation with Chile’s Gonzalo Jara at the Copa America. Despite being provoked heavily by Jara, Cavani was issued a second yellow card for putting his hands to the face of the Chile defender, who has since been banned three games and transfer listed by his club, Mainz, for his actions in the incident.

In addition, Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez and his assistant Mario Rebollo have been handed three-match touchline bans after being dismissed in the clash with Chile.

“CONMEBOL has communicated to the Uruguayan Football Association the decisions of the disciplinary tribunal with regard to the dismissals during the Copa América quarter-finals between Chile and Uruguay,” the federation said in a statement.

“Oscar Tabarez and Mario Rebollo have been suspended for three official matches. They will not be able to access the dressing room, tunnel or technical area, nor have any communication with their team before or during the match. Edinson Cavani was suspended for two official matches (Bolivia and Colombia) in qualification for Russia 2018.”

ZIDANE, DESCHAMPS BACK PLATINI FOR FIFA PRESIDENCY

Michel Platini is set to run for FIFA’s presidency, and the current UEFA boss has found several high-profile backers.

Two of those backers come in the form of Zinedine Zidane and Didier Deschamps, who both say that they believe Platini would be a major success should be assume the role of FIFA’s president.

“Michel would be a very good FIFA president,” Zidane said. “He’s the man we need, because he has done some good work already at UEFA. He’s really the ideal man for this post.”

“If there is a credible and legitimate person to fill this role, it’s certainly Michel Platini, added Deschamps, the current France manager. “Football needs strong and competent people at its head. With everything he did during his playing career and today at the head of UEFA, you can say that there is him and then there are the others. But it’s up to him to run for the presidency.”

  1. Thank you for the link. It’s interesting to see how the growth of the Basque and Catalan national independence movements and how football is being used to exercise their voices. Half of Spain no longer wants anything to do with the Madrid movement

  2. Platini credible ???? Either he was complicit in the corruption or too stupid to see the obvious. Either way he is WRONG for the job because of the role he’s played. He was either corrupt or an enabler. My guess he’s both.
