Do not stick a fork in the Colorado Rapids just yet.
The Rapids used a pair of second-half goals to come from behind and pick up a surprise 2-1 home win over Sporting Kansas City on Saturday. Dom Dwyer put Sporting KC ahead in the 47th minute with a one-timed effort, but Figueroa equalized just six minutes later before Doyle found a winner in the 76th.
Both of the Rapids’ goals were set up by Vicente Sanchez, who first pulled off a nifty dribbling run to tee up Figueroa’s deflected finish and later hit a gorgeous cross to Doyle for a close-range header.
The win extended Colorado’s current winning streak to three games, and has the club five points shy of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Kansas City, meanwhile, continues to be mired in a funk, losing three in a row now and slipping to fourth place in the conference.

I think this late season charge may save Pablo’s job. Too bad it took this long to start playing well. If the owners would loosen the purse strings for a high level attacker, we could have the look of a good team, as the defense has generally been pretty good.
They have a great roster and have spent recently on Doyle and Figueroa … The problem has always been terrible tactics and mentality by the coach… Unfortunately this late season surge will be enough to keep the status quo in CO
When I talk about loosening the purse strings, Kroenke has only spent money recently after it became clear that you can’t win in MLS without some DP signing, but even then, the signings haven’t been the greatest. The Figueroa signing looks to be good business, but $1.2 mil in salary for Doyle and his 4 goals. Maybe he he has a big season next year.
Agreed on Pablo. I have no idea what he is doing. He sold most of the players who got us into the playoffs two years ago, brought in a bunch of MLS journeyman, removed most of the pace from our team, and then constantly reshuffled the lineups after each embarrassing loss. That said, the defense is pretty solid. If a couple of the younger guys can make the leap and come due, we could have decent team next year.
