Advancing to the CONCACAF Champions League knockout stage has been no easy task for MLS teams in years past, and it was no different Wednesday.

The LA Galaxy progressed to the knockout rounds, but they did so in underwhelming fashion. Central FC made the Galaxy work for their spot, as the pair posted a 1-1 tie in Trinidad and Tobago.

With a roster consisting of only 16 players, and many key contributors resting at home, the Galaxy went down early to the hosts. Trinidad and Tobago international Willis Plaza blasted a right-footed effort into the bottom-left corner for the lead in the second minute.

Alan Gordan would eventually save the visitors, though, with an 82nd-minute tally.

The goal is Gordan’s fourth of the tournament, and with the win, the Galaxy join fellow MLS sides, D.C. United and the Seattle Sounders, in the knockout rounds.

The Galaxy will travel to play Comunicaciones on Oct. 21, and while qualification has already been achieved, a high seed in the next stage is still up for grabs.

Here are the highlights to Wednesday’s game:
