Months after announcing plans to own its own USL team in Florida, Orlando City SC is about to expand even more.

Orlando City is reportedly ready to create a NWSL team, which will begin play in 2016. NWSL commissioner Jeff Plush told the Guardian that club owners will meet on Oct. 1 to discuss possible expansion franchises for next season.

“We don’t have anything to announce right now and we don’t have anything finalized,” Plush said on Sunday. “Our next board meeting will be during the final and we’re working hard to put something in front of ownership for everyone to consider. But we’re not there yet.”

Orlando City would be the third MLS franchise to create a NWSL side if the expansion comes to fruition, and starting next season, the league would have 10 teams competing across the country.

The Florida franchise will also reportedly share its new stadium, set to finish in the summer of 2016, with the NWSL team but not its USL side.

What do you think about this development? Think a NWSL team in Orlando is a good fit?
