Crystal Dunn’s memorable week just got even more spectacular.

NWSL announced on Wednesday that Dunn is the league’s Most Valuable Player for the 2015 season. The 23-year-old forward is the youngest player and third straight Golden Boot winner to claim the league’s MVP award.

Dunn scored 15 goals in 20 appearances for the Washington Spirit this season, setting a new record for goals-per-game. Dunn’s 15 goals rank second all-time in the league’s history, behind only Kim Little’s 16-goal performance in the 24-game 2014 season.

The recognition comes just six days after Dunn scored her first international goal for the U.S. Women’s National Team. Dunn also contributed a pair of assists on Carli Lloyd’s goals to help lead the U.S. to a 5-0 thrashing of Haiti.

What do you think of Dunn’s recognition? Is she a deserved winner? What do you expect from her in the coming seasons? See her breaking into the USWNT lineup in the near future?

  1. CD is a straight up BEAST!!! I’ve been a big fan of hers since she was playing with the US U20’s. I love how she gets it done. When I had the chance to interact with her in person, she was supercool. She’s a really easy person for me to root for. I’m thrilled for her.

    • That would not be a good idea. I love to watch women’s soccer ( I watch more NCAAW than NCAAF until the college cup). As good as they are, technically, a lot of these women’s teams would get HOUSED by the men’s clubs teams. How well do you think the Spirit woudl do against the Galaxy, forget Top 5 Euro clubs.

      • Yeah I agree, because women are not as good as men in soccer. But like Ronda Rousey, these teams have said AND TRULY believe that they can compete against men.

They can’t. They would get crushed. The USWNT lost to a U17 boys club team 7-0 last year. I want to see them be able to play in FIFA so that they keep their feet on the ground instead of their head in the clouds.

    • She’s not a forward, although I believe the Spirit played her there which says a lot about her ability. She normally plays on the wing or as a wingback but clearly she has ability looking at the number of goals she scored and the outrage people expressed for her being left off of the final WC roster. I think she’s extremely talented but comparing her to “baby horse” or Leroux is difficult because they play different positions

    • She’s more of a winger/fullback/wingback. Ideally, a wingback. I said it then and I will say it now, Jill Ellis was foolish for choosing Chalupny over her.

  2. awesome for Crystal, and i still don’t know how Jill left this young lady off of the WC squad. Clearly she doesn’t use the same guidelines as JK for picking tournament teams where bringing along youngsters for the ride and experience is a priority.
