Darlington Nagbe’s best performance of 2015 helped propel the Portland Timbers to the postseason.

The Timbers midfielder netted two goals while providing an additional assist, leading the way in a 4-1 defeat of the Colorado Rapids Sunday at Providence Park.

With the win, the Timbers lock up third place in the Western Conference and a berth in the postseason, where they will take on Sporting KC on Wednesday at Providence Park.

Nagbe opened the scoring just five minutes into Sunday’s clash on a stunning free kick from 25 yards out. Positioned at the top of the box, Nagbe struck it with power, finding the top corner to give his side the 1-0 lead.

Following a Dominique Badji leveler, Nagbe added his second goal of the evening with his head. On the end of a cross from Lucas Melano, Nagbe flicked his headed effort from the penalty spot up and over Zac MacMath to restore the Timbers advantage in the 33rd minute.

Nagbe turned provider in the 63rd minute on a finish from Jorge VillafaƱa. After playing a one-two with Rodney Wallace, Nagbe found VillafaƱa on the left. The ensuing shot banked off Sean St. Ledger and into the back of the net for the Timbers’ third goal.

The fourth came from Fanendo Adi, whose 88th-minute finish served as little more than a cherry on top of a resounding Timbers victory.

With the loss, the Rapids end their season on a low with just four points from the team’s final eight games. The Rapids finish 2015 on just 37 points, level with New York City FC and the Philadelphia Union for second lowest in MLS.
