Frank Lampard has made it clear that he isn’t looking to spend the MLS offseason on loan. However, the New York City FC midfielder may very well be spending part of his time off with a Premier League club.

Goal UK reported on Thursday that Lampard has been invited to train with Manchester City throughout the MLS offseason. The English club would reportedly offer Lampard training with the first team in an attempt to help him return to full fitness after an injury-plagued MLS campaign.

Lampard, who featured at Manchester City for the 2014-15 season and arrived late to his debut MLS campaign, has previously stated his intentions of being fully prepared for NYCFC’s preseason come January.

“I need the rest to be fully fit next year for the club,” Lampard said. “My aim now is to manage myself well for next season, to finish this season on a high, have some breaks at times, but keep ticking over, have a really good preseason and throw everything into next year.”

The 37-year-old Englishman, who played his first game for NYCFC in August, has played nine games for the expansion side, scoring three goals while providing an assist.

What do you think about this Lampard news? Is it a case of, ‘Here we go again.’? How beenficial would training with Man City be ahead of his first MLS preseason?

  1. like the new format. it’s definitely more 2015 than the old style. See, this is how you redesign a site *side-eye look at the shitshow that is MLSsoccer.com*.

Anyway, of course Fat Frank is welcomed at Man City. It’s the mothership. Heck, there might even be another “miscommunication” about this training stint, and we won’t see Lamps back in New York until summer 2016. Stranger things have happened… this year.
