A former Salvadoran international and New York Red Bulls defender was shot dead on Sunday.
The Salvadoran attorney general’s office reported that Alfredo Pacheco, 33, was murdered in Santa Ana while with a group of friends. Two other people were injured in the incident.
Pacheco, who was one of many players banned by the Salvadoran soccer federation in 2013 for being involved in match-fixing, previously played for the Red Bulls in MLS on loan in 2009, as well as Club Deportivo FAS, C.D. Águila and A D Isidro Metapán in the El Salvador top flight.
The defender is currently the most capped player all-time for El Salvador.

Gang related violence? A story often repeated in E.S.
That’s horrific! My condolences to his family.
Rest In Peace Alfredo Pacheco, I’ll pray for you and your family.

Maybe that’s a poor choice of words.
I see what you did there. Nice.
Shots fired!
Yes. Your post was a poor choice of words, all around.
Una gran tristeza. Not the kind of X-mas and New Year’s message of hope and inspiration we expect this time of year. Condolences to his family and friends.
Extremely sad and very tragic. I hope to goodness this wasn’t some act of revenge or anyway connected to the match fixing.
what do you hope were the reason he was shot?
