The New York Red Bulls have apparently tapped into their Homegrown talent ahead of the MLS Draft.

According to Goal USA, the Red Bulls are set to sign Georgetown teammates Brandon Allen and Alex Muyl, Virginia midfielder Derrick Etienne and Maryland midfielder Mael Corboz.

Muyl, the playmaker for Georgetown in 2015, was a second-team All-Big East selection and recorded fourĀ goals and nineĀ assists. His teammate and MAC Hermann Trophy finalist, Allen, scored 12 goals and added seven assists this campaign. He finishes his college career as the all-time leading goal-scorer for Georgetown with 50 goals.

Meanwhile, Etienne completed just one season with 2014 NCAA champion Virgina, but was one of the best attacking talents on the Cavaliers roster, head coach George Gelnovatch told SBI in November. He was named as an ACC All-Freshman selection in 2015.

Defensive midfielder Corboz completed his senior campaign with Maryland this year, and looked dominant once again. He recorded his breakout year in 2014, scoring a Big Ten-leading 10 goals. He honed in on his playmaking abilities this season, racking up 12 assists and two goals.

What do you think of the Red Bulls’ new signings? Who do you see making the most impact for the Red Bulls in 2016 and beyond?

  1. i honestly thought that corboz could have signed after his freshman year at rutgers. while hes not the most phsyical player, his technical and tactical acumen were on the professional level. well beyond some of the players on the field at the time for many mls teams….unfortuantely don’t see allen’s game translating well to the pros. will bruin/jason garey type forward…admittedly have not seen as much of muyl and etienne….all the best to these 4
