Christian Pulisic is flying high for Borussia Dortmund.
On Saturday, the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team talent dressed in Borussia Dortmund’s German Bundesliga match against Borussia Monchengladbach. He didn’t see any playing time, but he did score a goal and play all 90 minutes in the club’s friendly match vs. FC Union Berlin on Sunday.
The American netted the game-tying goal in the 42nd minute at Stadion An der Alten Försterei, and Dortmund eventually won by a scoreline of 3-1.
Pulisic recently scored his first goal for the Dortmund senior team on Jan. 15 in a friendly vs. South Korean side Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.
Dortmund will play FC Ingolstadt 04 in its next Bundesliga contest on Saturday.
Here is Pulisic’s goal:
What do you think of Pulisic’s performance? Expect him to play any league games for Dortmund this season?

He needs to come to the MLS where he can get playing time and play in front of the home fans. He won’t have to deal with anti-American bias, either. All of the World Cup winners have most of their lineup playing at home. We won’t advance as a national team until most of our players are playing in the MLS. I can’t wait until they offer him a monster contract and he ends up stateside.
It doesn’t matter how many stars we have in the MLS we’ll never win a World Cup under Herr Klinsmann. The guy has such an anti-MLS bias it isn’t even funny. I mean seriously no Matt Hedges??? He’s the best CB in our pool. You can’t accomplish much when your coach is so incompetent. My line-ups are way better than his.
I know you are being sarcastic but I think it’s best we have any many guys taking as many different paths as possible.
Low near post won’t work in the first team. Roof near post or low far post. Probably why he plays in a reserve role now.
Holy troll.
Keeper was cheating. He looked up and recognized that. Smart finish.
This guy really taking the piss out of him for scoring a goal? lol
No, he plays in a reserve role because he is 17 on one of the best teams in the world
Players are taught to look at where the goalie is before they shoot the ball. That’s what he did and he scored. You are criticizing a guy for executing the fundamentals of finishing.
Coming from a former keeper, I used to love players who follow ‘rules’ like that. Completely predictable. Only inexperienced finishers ever bother with that kind of stuff.
More impressive to dress for the Bundesliga game than that goal.
Was primarily the 2nd stringers for BvB, but I think that’s a good sign, he wasn’t playing with a bunch of Dortmund II guys. Although a lot of subs in the 2nd half it was a mostly regular lineup for 2Bundesliga Union. Bobby Wood went 67 minutes.
I guess the question is, do you promote him up to the U23 squad, for the up and coming Colombia match?
Great question!
I don’t think it’d be out of the question to bring him into camp, and see how he does. I mean, we got CCV there who is close to the same age (although with a body about 6 years older physically). Both I think are at a similar level, talent wise.
Lets see if he can hang.
Love the aggression. Love that he recognized the keeper was out of position. Some of the worst keeping I’ve ever seen, but that’s not CP22’s fault.
Good for him. Hopefully he keeps on this track with his development and gets some regular first team minutes before the spring season if finished.
The aggressiveness of Pulisic attacking defenders is what every young American player need to learn to do in games. I’ve watched Deandre Yedlin with Sunderland a few games ago when he’s on the field. Yedlin was not aggressive at all when he received the ball in the attacking half and just looked timidly to pass the ball to the nearest teammate. That’s not how he drew attention from the scouts during the 2014 WC. No wonder he’s not getting much playing time recently.
Paul Arriola of Tijuana is pretty agressive too when he gets the ball. Haven’t seen him play recently but was very impressed with his ability to run at players and get past them with skill. Don’t know if he’s with TJ’s first team now but he was on loan last year.
Yeah he’s on TJ, usually gets some minutes off the bench.
Fearless. Kid looks tough, keep working.
I think David was being sarcastic…
He’s 17. How many world class players had MLS developed compared to Germany? I think they know what they’re doing. If he were 22-23 and not playing first team then you would have a point.
This is all fine and good. But what if he DOESN’T get first team playing time there. He should go play for MLS where he will be more comfortable.
He’s 17. Give him a break.
Hater! There is no such things as “playing for MLS”. They have 20 teams. You should check it out one day!
