Danny Williams is having quite a year offensively for Reading.

On Saturday, the 26-year-old defensive midfielder scored his sixth goal of the season across all competitions to help Reading progress to the fifth round of the English FA Cup via a 4-0 rout of Walsall.

Williams, who started and played all 90 minutes in midfield, scored when he pounced on a Walsall error in the 75th minute. Surging towards goal down the middle of the field, Williams maintained perfect composure and slotted a shot under the legs of the onrushing goalkeeper.

The American’s goal is the first English cup goal of his career, but Williams has netted five league goals in 27 appearances for Reading during the 2015-16 season.

The draw for the competition’s fifth round will be held on Sunday. Reading returns to action vs. Ipswich Town in English Championship play on Tuesday.

Here is the U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder’s run and strike:

What do you think of Williams’ goal? How impressed are you with how he has performed with Reading this season?

    • IMO there are currently 3 players who should be used going forward in place of Jones & Beckerman.
      1) Cameron – Probably the best option, but is currently needed as the starting RCB, at least until either Gonzalez, Alvarado, or Miazga improve enough to allow the shift.
1a) Williams – A bit more defensive than Jones (less offensive), but that would actually allow Bradley greater freedom without sacrificing defense. Too often Jones & Bradley both went forward and left us a bit exposed.
1b) Morales – More a replacement for Beckerman as a true # 6, but still can add to offense on occasion.

Kitchen, Trapp, Hyndman, & Zelalem are working their way towards being in the conversation but aren’t quite there yet.
