Stoke City and Geoff Cameron received some good news on Monday.

Hours after Stoke City appealed Cameron’s red card decision from Saturday’s loss to West Brom, the English Football Association announced the withdrawal of his three-match ban. He will be available for selection against Liverpool in the League Cup semifinals on Tuesday.

“An Independent Regulatory Commission found that the match referee had made an obvious error in dismissing the Stoke City player for violent conduct during the game against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday,” a statement from the FA said.

Center official Lee Mason showed Cameron a red card after the U.S. Men’s National Team defender shoved Claudio Yacob in the 83rd minute. Stoke was tied before the red was issued, but went on to lose, 2-1, against West Brom.

Think the FA made the right call? Will Cameron will play tomorrow vs. Liverpool?

  1. While they’re at it. they should punish the shameless actor who drew the card in the first place. Simulation/embellishment and time-wasting are blots on the beautiful game.

    • +1 … and take the extra 2 points they earned by wrongly being up a man, and give the actor a de facto yellow. Neither will happen, obviously, but until something like it is done, it will just continue.

Refs. that have a reputation for really cracking down on diving to the point of even wrongly giving out cards when guys really have been fouled, very rarely see guys diving in THEIR games.

      • I propose a rule that would permit a suspension or other appropriate punishment for grabbing your face if a review of the video shows that there was no contact at all with your face.

  2. Hate to see a game changed by a call like that, but nevertheless, refreshing to see it over ruled afterward so as to not compound the error in order to save face. Doesn’t always…….. rarely happens.
