Jokes have been made aplenty about the assembly line of minority owners that Los Angeles FC has, and here come a whole lot more.
During LAFC’s official unveiling of its crest and colors on Thursday, it was revealed that comedic actor Will Ferrell has joined the largest ownership group in the history of MLS.
Yes, Ron Burgundy. Yes, Anchorman. Yes, the legendary Chazz.
Ferrell, who was in attendance as the club displayed its crest and colors, made a point of saying that this surprise was “not a joke.” He joins a number of celebrities and recognizable people who have stakes in LAFC, including Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson, Mia Hamm, and Nomar Garciaparra.
Ferrell is no stranger to American soccer. During the 2014 World Cup, he showed up to a U.S. Men’s National Team fans’ night-before party to deliver a stirring speech.
Forget the meatloaf. Soccer is what Ferrell wants now.
What do you think about Ferrell being added to LAFC’s ownership group? Is it only a matter of time before the expansion club has hundreds of minority owners? What other celebrities should join this assembly line of investors?
