Yes I know Fabian Johnson is playing well, but when it comes to scoring goals, playing smart, getting fouls called in good spots, etc. I think Dempsey is now the best US player ever. Donovan was a better passer and had more pace, but when it comes to just out and out scoring, Dempsey’s the best.
I don’t think he’s still the best US player, and I love the guy, despite his bad rapping ability. However, when it comes to just out and out scoring, I do agree that Dempsey is still the best we have.
Isn’t Donovan still the all time goals and assist leader for the US?? You can make that statement when that is no longer the case and being the best player has nothing to do with just scoring goals so in my opinion your comment is way off when you look at the totality of the players production.
15 of of Donovan’s national team goals were PK’s. When you discount PK’s, Dempsey actually has more national team goals than Donovan. As for assists, I said Donovan was a better passer.
GP, good point, but I would rather see Donovan roll out of the booth to take a PK then Dempsey. I like Dempsey but his PKs make me cringe.

I watched a whole lot of “Dempsey’s games in the EPL and he was consistently getting fouls called and I never saw him get a card for diving. Either he fooled many different refs consistently in the EPL, or he was good at faking out defenders and getting fouled. I think it was the latter.

I doubt many of us dismiss what Dempsey brings to the team. Sure, we’ve made line-ups without him included recently, but that’s only because he wasn’t in the January camp, which isn’t a big deal. And most of us probably don’t think he’ll be a great option in 2018, but I bet that if you took an SBI poll, over 90% of us would want him on the Copa America team, and most of us would want him starting.
Brian, u can’t be serious in thinking JK doesn’t want Dempsey around. Especially with the plethora of articles quoting him saying how he asked Clint and Clint asked to miss this camp… Yet u take that as jk “not needing” Clint? Ha…….. I truly wish everyone on the planet was intelligent…..
