Danny Williams has been in fine form for Reading as of late, and the U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder has reportedly caught the eye of an English Premier League suitor because of it.
According to Sky Sports, Premier League club Swansea City is reportedly in talks with Reading with regards to the addition of 26-year-old midfielder. After selling Jonjo Shelvey to Newcastle, Swansea remain in the market for a central midfielder and reportedly believe Williams fits the bill.
However, Reading is reluctant to sell Williams after previously losing fellow midfield option Nick Blackman earlier in the window. In addition, Williams reportedly trained as usual with Reading on Monday.
Williams has scored five league goals for Reading this season, including three in his past 10 games. Most recently, the midfielder put his name on the scoresheet with a finish in Reading’s 4-0 FA Cup rout of Walsall on Saturday.

I haven’t seen them play this year, but I know that in the past Swansea has played a very attractive style of soccer–like Arsenal when they are playing well. I think it would be a positive move for Williams. Remember that he was a starter for a while in the Bundesliga, so I think he can handle the EPL.

Why move to Swansea when they will probably be relegated coupled with Danny liable to be warming the bench at Swansea rather than playing every week at Reading. Surely a match fit player will be better for your National Team than one warming a bench. Urzzzzz
Money? Swansea probably have a higher wage scale than Reading and even if they go down, they’ll have the balloon-payment funds to cover contracts in the short term. Might be a good financial move for him.
“Probably”? They’re 4 points and 3 places out of the relegation zone with a decent goal differential.
Of all the teams at the bottom of the table, Swansea and Newcastle are the ones most likely to turn it on and climb the table. No real danger of being relegated.
I know he didn’t have the greatest game his last time out with the Nats, but if you watch his Reading games or highlights, he should definitely have the inside track to supplant Jermaine Jones at our D Mid position. He is good with his distribution out of the back and in tight spaces AND can be very good when he goes forward. He is head and shoulders above some of the young MLS D-mid prospects. I’m not being Eurosnobbish here either, just my observations having watched many of them play.
I agree. I have watched some of his games on BeIn Sports. I would say that the quality he has shown with Reading is not shown on USMNT all the time. I like and watch a lot of MLS and
i think he is better than some of the d-mids people here cry for (e.g. Dax). Seeing that he is 26, he HAS t make the position his now.
