Bobby Wood stays hot with double in Union Berlin rout

Bobby Wood FC Union Berlin 22

There is just no stopping Bobby Wood right now.

Wood continued his impressive run of form for FC Union Berlin on Saturday by bagging a brace in the a 4-0 demolition of FSV Frankfurt. The 23-year-old striker has now scored in four straight games, and has seven goals in his last six matches. In total, Wood has netted 12 times in the 2. Bundesliga season.

Both of Wood’s tallies at home vs. FSV Frankfurt came within a five-minute stretch in the first half. Wood added the first insurance goal via a penalty kick in the 29th minute, and then pushed the lead to 3-0 with a close-range finish off a rebound.

The two-goal outing will only strengthen Wood’s chances of getting the nod in the U.S. Men’s National Team’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers vs. Guatemala. The U.S. first visits Guatemala on March 25 before returning home for a rematch four days later.

What do you think of Wood’s two-goal performance? Fully expecting him to start for the USMNT in the upcoming game vs. Guatemala? Will a bigger club come calling for Wood this summer?

  1. He has the speed and skillset to be the next coming of Charlie Davies (him or MOrris, but I think Wood is technically further along than Morris, though Morris may be overall more “athletic”). Jozy needs a foil like CD provided and Wood or Morris can.

  2. I thought Casey was in the bundesliga, no? I like to see any American scoring but how excited are we supposed to get over a pk and goals in Germany’s second division?

  3. Getting very close to Conor Casey’s mark for # of league goals in a season in Germany by an American. For sure should be with the NATS for WC qualifying.

  4. Is he their regular PK taker? 2nd goal the keeper could have done better, but he took advantage of it and was in the right place at the right time. Good for him.
