New York Red Bulls midfielder Felipe has always been regarded as a player who is willing to do the dirty work while helping to control the midfield. However, it was the Brazilian’s ability to create magic in front of goal that led the Red Bulls to victory over the weekend.

Felipe provided the Red Bulls with the equalizing and game-winning goal in Saturday’s 4-3 defeat of the Houston Dynamo, earning the midfielder honors as SBI MLS Player of the Week.

With his side down a goal in the 77th minute, Felipe stepped up to provide hisĀ first magnificent finish of the evening. After receiving the ball just outside the box, Felipe took a touch before curling a right-footed effort to the far post to level the scoreline. Just six minutes later, the midfielder one-upped himself by rocketing a free kick into the upper corner, earningĀ the Red Bulls their first victory of the season in epic fashion.

The midfielder’s game-winning efforts were enough to earn SBI MLS Player of the Week honors ahead of the Philadelphia Union’s C.J. Sapong, FC Dallas’ Mauro Diaz and LA Galaxy forward Gyasi Zardes.

What did you think of Felipe’s performance? Which player stood out the most to you over the weekend?
