For the second straight season, Chelsea has seen their Champions League run ended by Paris-Saint Germain.

After claiming the opening leg, 2-1, at the Parc des Princes, PSG won by the same scoreline on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge to advance to the next round of the Champions League.

Early on, PSG gave Chelsea a mountain to climb on a goal from an unlikely source, as Adrien Rabiot furthered PSG’s lead with an away goal in the 16th minute. The Blues bounced back just 11 minutes later through Diego Costa to pull back within one goal on aggregate. Early in the second half, Costa was lost to a calf injury, signaling the beginning of the end for the Premier League club.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic sealed Chelsea’s fate in the 67th minute by slamming home an Angel di Maria cross to book PSG’s berth in the quarterfinal stage for the fourth straight season.

LATE GOALS PUSH BENFICA PAST ZENIT

With the score tied on aggregate through 85 minutes, Benfica found a pair of late goals to stun Zenit St. Petersburg in their home stadium.

Late goals from Nicolas Gaitan and Talisca sent Benfica into the Champions League quarter-finals with a 3-1 aggregate victory after topping Zenit, 2-1, on Wednesday at the Petrovski Stadium.

Zenit dropped the opening leg, but found themselves back in business in the 69th minute via a controversial close-range header from Hulk. In the build-up to the play, it appeared that Yury Zhirkov fouled Nelson Semedo, leaving Benfica incensed as the game was left tied going into the final 20 minutes.

It took until the 86th minute for Benfica to find the breakthrough, as Gaitan tapped in a rebound to all but seal Benfica’s advantage. Up two scores due to away goals, Benfica iced it in stoppage time as Talisca added another to boost Benfica into the final eight.
