Soccer Thursday: Your Running Commentary

Following a pair of UEFA Champions League days, the Europa League assumes the spotlight on Thursday with a pair of semifinal matchup.

After toppling Borussia Dortmund in the quarterfinal round, Liverpool travels to Spain to take on Villarreal in Thursday’s semifinal first leg. The Reds will be doing so shorthanded, as the recent suspension of centerback Mamadou Sakho leaves Liverpool weakened in defense against red-hot Villarreal forward Cedric Bakambu.

In Tuesday’s other clash, Shakhtar Donetsk will look to take down the competition’s reigning champions, Sevilla, who could be without regulars Vitolo and Kevin Gamiero due to injury.

  1. Do you suppose Dortmund wishes they had processed Sakho’s drug test a little quicker since he was one of Liverpool’s best players in both legs.
