Despite losing one of two World Cup qualifiers in March, the U.S. Men’s National Team improved its world ranking.

Jurgen Klinsmann’s men improved one spot, and are tied at No. 29 with Czech Republic in the latest FIFA rankings. However, the USMNT is now the third-highest ranked CONCACAF team in the world after Costa Rica climbed eight spots to claim No. 25. Mexico improved six spots to earn the No. 16 spot.

There is a new No. 1 in the April edition of the rankings, as Argentina leapfrogged Belgium to hold the position. Chile, Colombia and Germany round out the top five teams in the world, respectively.

The U.S. does not have any competitive or friendly fixtures scheduled in April.

What do you think of this month’s rankings? Think the USMNT is ranked too high? Too low?

  1. This almost entirely do to scheduling. The European squads as a whole went down because they were playing friendlies, Concacaf and Conmebol move up because of the added bonus of playing qualifiers.

    • I am excited for the Hex, Costa Rica and Panama are both hitting on Golden Generations, Mexico has rebounded from some down years, Jamaica is back playing better. A better CONCACAF only makes us better going forward.

    • I’m excited to see the team JK puts together for the summer tourney. Regardless of all the hysteria he has a plan. Also, how JK game plans for each game. Such as for Costa Rica does he try to come out blazin pushing for a first goal? Does JK try and go more with a possession and get in the ball more from the back with Nagbe in the lineup pairing with Bradley.

  2. I think Chile is too high. Colombia is about right and we see from their U-23 team how they have a good developmental system. They are going to be very tough in the Centenario. The US is probably in the toughest group since it also has Costa Rica and Paraguay which has done very well recently in qualifying. This ranking of the US is probably close to correct, but it doesn’t matter much anyway.
