An American soccer legend made his return to his club’s starting lineup this weekend in England, while a rising star returned to the bench in Germany.
Tim Howard made his first start in months for Everton, after manager Roberto Martinez announced the shot stopper would play the final two games of the season. Howard made one save as his side beat Bournemouth 2-1 at Goodison Park.
While U.S. Men’s National Team fans will feel good about Howard’s return to top flight soccer right before leading the backline at Copa America, they will be saddened by Christian Pulisic’s lack of minutes in Borussia Dortmund’s match this weekend. Pulisic dressed, but did not enter the match as Dortmund secured a 5-1 result at home against Wolfsburg.
Back in the Premier League, DeAndre Yedlin’s Sunderland drew level at the death with Stoke City, thanks to a penalty conceded by compatriot Geoff Cameron. The American centerback clipped Jermain Defoe in the box, and the English striker put away the spot kick to earn Sunderland another crucial point in the relegation battle.

Cameron was responsible for the late penalty that allowed Sunderland to tie the game. Personally, I thought it was a soft call. Looked more like Defoe got the ball jammed in his feet and lost his balance. Bad luck for Cameron.
Pulisic didnt play because the next day the U19s had a match to win their championship. They wanted Pulisic to be there to be able to celebrate since he was a big part of them winning the youth title. He scored a goal in that game. Im sure He’ll be get minutes with Dortmund next match.
Interesting. His goal was a beaut:

His movement alone was awesome. The goal itself, even better. I’m done trying to temper my expectations. We got ourselves a bona fide star.
Interesting – thanks for the info. His goal for the U19s was pretty sweet.
Thanks for the link. He toyed with the goalie on that shot. The crowd oohed and aahed.
John Requejo and Amando Moreno also went 90 minutes for Tijuana. Tijuana had 4 Americans in the starting eleven.
I know its U19 so it doesn’t belong in the article, but some might want to know Haji Wright scored again for Schalke, his third in his third match.
Checked the lineups after the fact on ESPNFC, and Cole Grossman played 90 minutes for Stabaek in their 2-1 loss against Odds BK today.
