U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team goalkeeper Cody Cropper is set to meet with MK Dons manager Karl Robinson to discuss his future, according to the team’s website.

Cropper, who is out of contract at the end of the season, was starting for the side in the Football League Championship in England, but injured his shoulder on April 23. Cropper tore his labrum after diving for a save and underwent successful surgery. He is out indefinitely.

Cropper has made nine appearances this season for MK Dons after signing for the club last June. The team has two other goalkeepers on its roster — David Martin and Charlie Burns — who have also seen time this season. Burns is also set to meet with the club.

Last month, Cropper told the Minnesota soccer blog Northern Pitch that he would be interested in making a move to the MLS one day.

“There are really only two teams I have a desire to play for – Minnesota United and Atlanta United,” Cropper said. “I have personal ties to both cities, and I would love to end up there. I know [Minnesota United president] Nick [Rogers]. We’ve had a few conversations about them buying my rights in MLS or bringing me in down the road. At this point, though, time will tell what ends up happening.”

What do you think is best for Cropper? Expect him to stay with MK Dons?

  1. At this point he is being overtaken by the keepers in the class behind him (Horvath & Steffen). If he hopes to stay in the picture for the USMNT he needs to find a home where he’ll get consistent playing time. It doesn’t matter where (Europe or MLS) so long as he gets consistent PT and shows that he can compete.
Howard & Rimando are at the end of their careers.
Guzan had a rough year and hasn’t yet claimed the #1 keeper spot. Time is ticking away.
Hamid & S. Johnson can’t stay healthy…have been overtaken by others in their age bracket.
Bingham & Yarbrough need to prove that they are more than 3rd string quality, but have shown well.
Horvath & Steffen are climbing the ranks quickly. Would not be surprised to see them get called in more often going forward..
