Kei Kamara’s exit may not be as big of an issue for Columbus Crew SC if they get production out of the striker’s successor like they did on Saturday night.

The Crew outlasted a difficult Real Salt Lake side at MAPFRE Stadium, 4-3, behind Ola Kamara’s first career MLS hat trick.

The 27-year-old Norwegian pulled the Crew level at 1-1 in the 17th minute for his first goal of the evening after Luke Mulholland’s opener four minutes earlier.

Kamara then proceeded to finish twice more on the night in the 64th and 74th minutes, with the latter proving to be the game’s decider. The Crew received a little bit of assistance from the opposition on their second goal, when RSL defender Justen Glad put the ball in the back of his own net.

Despite going down 4-1 with roughly 15 minutes remaining, late goals by Jordan Allen and Joao Plata gave the away side a puncher’s chance in the dying moments. RSL’s late push proved to be all for not though, as the Crew held on in front of their home supporters.

The Crew will be back in action on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Union, while RSL travels to Yankee Stadium to face New York City FC two days later.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Ola Kamara‘s hat trick proved to be the difference for the Crew, as the team picked up their third win of the season. The striker’s confidence will surely be at a premium following the massive home result.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

The Crew were firing on all cylinders in the attacking third, especially Kamara who scored his third goal of the night with about a quarter hour remaining. The striker’s header gave the Crew a comfortable 4-1 cushion, and proved to be the winner despite a RSL comeback.

MATCH TO FORGET

Justen Glad and the RSL backline struggled mightily throughout the evening, but it was the youngster’s own goal in 20th minute that helped the Crew build their lead in the first half.

  1. I guess this Kamara gets the OK from Higuain to score a hat-trick. Guess he learned his lesson on teamwork?

  2. So K.Kamara was upset he was denied the opportunity to score a hat trick, gets traded, is replaced by a guy with the same name, who wastes no time in scoring a hat trick of his own………Beyond weird.
