Soccer Monday: Your Running Commentary

kane

The race to the English Premier League title may come to an end on Monday afternoon.

Following Leicester City’s draw on Sunday, Tottenham face a must-win situation in Monday’s clash with Chelsea. A draw or loss would see Leicester crowned Premier League champions, while a Tottenham victory would see the London club awarded another week to continue its pursuit.

Spurs will be without one of their biggest stars for Monday and the rest of the Premier League season as Dele Alli serves a three-game suspension for throwing a punch last time out. Tottenham has not won at Chelsea in 28 matches over the past 26 years.

Elsewhere, Werder Bremen takes on Stuttgart in German Bundesliga action while Napoli and Atalanta collide in the Italian Serie A.

  1. anybody else know tottenham was a dirty team? i haven’t watched a whole lot of them, but man, this game against chelsea is nuts. pretty sure kyle walker just threw blood at diego costa.

    • took a valiant effort from the officials not to send anyone off, for some reason. walker should’ve had two reds; dembele and lamela should’ve been sent off; willian and rose could’ve been. benches cleared a couple times, and then a free-for-all as the squads were exiting down the tunnel for good measure.

as it was, 3 yellow cards for chelsea, and 9(!) for spurs. i’m assuming there will be some retrospective punishment handed down.

    • Referee Mark Clattenburg really let this game get out of hand. After the tying goal Tottenham really were shameless. They should have had two or three players sent off. A terrible and classless display. Usually I pull for them, but I’m glad they didn’t win today. They didn’t deserve to. And they’re not usually like that, their desperation destroyed whatever good judgment they might have had.
