With each team missing key figures in the starting XI on Saturday night, Columbus Crew SC and the Montreal Impact struggled to find a scoring touch.

The Crew and Impact played to a 0-0 draw at MAPFRE Stadium, after both sides combined for a mere four shots on target.

Even with Didier Drogba leading the charge for the Impact, the road side struggled to break down the Crew backline, despite testing goalkeeper Steve Clark on three occasions. The Impact were missing several critical pieces on Saturday, but none bigger than leading goalscorer Ignacio Piatti, who has notched eight finishes on the season.

Meanwhile, the Crew clearly missed the injured Federico Higuain, who remains sidelined following sports hernia surgery. Ola Kamara made a second-half substitution for the Crew, but even he failed to provide a difference-making play for Greg Berhalter’s team.

The Crew will return to action on June 25, meeting the New York Red Bulls in a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference finals. The Impact will also be in action that day against Sporting KC.

MAN OF THE MATCH

In a game where chances were far and few, Crew goalkeeper Steve Clark needed to be sharp when called upon, and his three saves ensured Greg Berhalter’s side a point.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

With a direct free kick outside the penalty area, Justin Meram had two opportunities to take the lead for the Crew. The midfielder’s first attempt was blocked by the wall, but the referee made the decision that it would be taken again after the Impact moved quickly. Meram’s second effort had the same result, and didn’t clear the wall.

MATCH TO FORGET

Making a start in the absence of Federico Higuain, Mohammed Saied failed to make much of an impression for the Crew up front. In 85 minutes on the field, the Swede registered just one shot.
