After starting out the tournament as the hottest team, Argentina has reportedly been dealt a massive blow to one of the squad’s best attacking players.

According to ESPN Deportes, Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria could miss the remainder of the Copa America Centenario for La Albiceleste after suffering an abductor tear during the first half of Friday’s 5-0 win over Panama.

Di Maria exited the match at halftime, but Argentina’s worst fears could become true, with the 28-year-old likely to sit out for the rest of the competition.

While it seems unlikely that Di Maria will return in time for a potential finale at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on June 26, Argentina remains hopeful for his return.

The attacker has notched one goal and two assists in the Copa America.

How does Di Maria’s injury affect Argentina? Can La Albiceleste still be a threat to win the title?

  1. No way he returns from a groin tear by the end of the tournament. That’s too bad for Argentina and the fans.
