Soccer Wednesday: Your Running Commentary

Cosmos NYCFC 1 (USA TODAY Sports)

After creating some early separation in Group A, France and Switzerland will be back in action on Wednesday with the chance to secure a spot in the Round of 16.

The hosts began their tournament with a thrilling 2-1 win against Romania, while Switzerland pulled out a narrow 1-0 win of their own vs. Albania. Romania will take on the Swiss in the afternoon, preceding France meeting Albania.

Amid the recent fan violence surrounding Russia and its supporters, Leonid Slutsky’s side will take on Slovakia as Group B play continues.

The Fourth Round of the U.S. Open Cup continues on Wednesday with 12 matches. In a familiar meeting from last year’s tournament, New York City FC will look to win their first Open Cup match against the New York Cosmos.

In the first leg of Spain’s promotion playoff finals, Segunda sides Osasuna and Girona look to gain ground on one another before meeting again on Saturday.
