Following their crucial 4-0 win against Costa Rica on Tuesday, the U.S. Men’s National Team seeks a spot in the quarterfinal with a result against Paraguay.

U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann will employ the same starting XI for the third straight match on Saturday night, which includes veteran forces Clint Dempsey, Michael Bradley and Jermaine Jones.

The USMNT back four will look to continue to build off of its newfound chemistry, with DeAndre Yedlin, John Brooks, Geoff Cameron and Fabian Johnson earning starting roles. The U.S. attack will feature Gyasi Zardes, Bobby Wood and Dempsey, although the formation Klinsmann uses is still undetermined.

Paraguay will make four changes following their 2-1 loss against Colombia, including the additions of defenders Fabian Balbuena and Victor Ayala.

  1. I have criticized Zardes’ touch as much as anyone. But today he showed good control many times in traffic. There were a few occasions where he looked like the other Gyasi. But all in all, he was as good as anyone holding the ball. I though Wood was very strong as well (all though he was going postal a few times) after the red to Yedlin.

  2. everybody showed a lot of heart out there after Yedlin’s brain fart. All the yellow cards are a concern, but you can’t fault the men for their passion.

    • You’re kidding, right? We were lucky to finish with 10. Glad we are advancing, but these types of performances are hardly things to celebrate.

      • How were we almost “CONCACAF’d?” We played like thugs for the most part of the game.Very little in the way of skill or possession. Even before we went down to 10, the players of the game were going to be a CB and our keeper. This against the might Paraguay…

      • 20 fouls committed. 35% possession. And some of our longest strings of possession actually came down a man when we were killing the game. We might have won, but this is not progress.

  3. Cautiously optimistic at the half up 1-0. If we keep giving up counterattack options we’re eventually going to give up a goal. Lets put up a big, emphatic W.

  4. Bradley wasted atleast 1 free kick and 2 corners in the 1st half. Zardes with the silkiest touch and highest soccer IQ of any player on the field during the 1st half, except for maybe Brooks.

    • So many people @ replying on Twitter to Ives and TSS feel the same way.

I disagree. P-Sick is more skilled and maybe has a higher soccer IQ, but Zardes is a physical beast and puts in dirty work on both ends. Plus the chemistry we’re building up right now, P-Sick is the better sub.
