While Fabian Espindola’s stay in Vancouver was brief to say the least, the Whitecaps appear to have found a more permanent option at striker to bolster the team’s already dangerous attack.

The Whitecaps acquired forward Giles Barnes on Saturday night from the Houston Dynamo in a trade that sent general allocation money and the right of first refusal for Costa Rican defender Keyner Brown to the latter.

Barnes, 27, has spent the last four-plus seasons with the Dynamo after joining the side in 2012 from English Championship club Doncaster Rovers. In 113 appearances with the Dynamo, Barnes notched 31 goals and 14 assists.

In regards to Brown, the Dynamo can now negotiate with the Herediano player. It was reported by La Nacion several weeks ago that the Western Conference side was closing in on a deal for the 24-year-old

  1. I will be at the game tonight booing this garbage team b/c Chris Cannetti and Matt Jordan have the luxury of hiding in their suite (assuming they care enough to show up to the games)

  2. Baffling. Barnes seemed like their biggest offensive threat and certainly has the talent. Was he at the end of his contract or angling for a move. Doesn’t seem like a good trade for Houston.
