Two traditional powerhouses will look to book a place in the Euro 2016 final on Thursday, as France takes on Germany in Marseille.

Coming into their semifinals clash, France has noticeably improved throughout the tournament, including in Les Bleus most recent 5-2 win against Iceland in the previous round.

With a combined 10 goals this summer, Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud and Dimitri Payet have made France among the most dangerous attacks at the European Championship.

Germany comes into the meeting fresh off a penalty-kick victory against Italy and having conceded just one goal in the team’s first five matches. The Germans will be missing one key piece in the backline, though, with Bayern Munich centerback Mats Hummels suspended due to yellow card accumulation.

Meanwhile, Joachim Low’s side will be shorthanded with midfielder Sami Khedira and striker Mario Gomez each likely to miss the match with injuries. Bastian Schweinsteiger is also is doubt for the Germans with a knee sprain.

  1. 88th minute… Looking at the speed at which both teams play, it’s hard to say the the USMNT are anywhere near that fitness level both physically and mentally.

    • Physically as in endurance? Definitely.
      Mentally? No.
      Athletically? No.
      Technically? No.
That being said, we’d fare better against both of these sides than against Argentina or Chile though.

      • I’m not even sure we are physically there, to be honest. Definitely not there mentally or technically. That used to the USA’s hallmark: “You may beat us, but you will earn it, and we won’t beat ourselves!” Can’t say that’s always true anymore.

  2. Against the run of play this one so far… Germany dominating possession and chances, long way to go, never count out the Germans.

Death matches on one side of the bracket, Espana-Italia, Italia-Deutschland, now Deutschland-France…could well deliver the title to Ronaldo and Co.

To quote the title song from “Malcolm in the Middle”: Life is Unfair…
