After first being reported on Sunday night by FourFourTwo USA, Orlando City SC appears to have found its next head coach.

Goal USA is reporting that Jason Kreis will become the club’s next head coach after recently parting ways with Adrian Heath.

Heath had served as the team’s coach since prior to making the leap to MLS in 2015. Orlando City’s recent questions within the front office spurred debates as to whether the club would hire a foreign coach due to the team’s Brazilian ownership, however, Kreis’ success within the league likely played a role in his reported hiring.

Kreis, 43, is known for his success at Real Salt Lake, where he and his team captured the 2009 MLS Cup title. In his seven seasons with RSL, Kreis led the Claret and Cobalt to six postseason appearances, including an MLS Cup and a trip to the 2010/11 CONCACAF Champions League final.

The former MLS attacker served as New York City FC’s inaugural head coach in 2015, but was abruptly fired after just one season in charge.

Kreis has served as a figure on Jurgen Klinsmann’s U.S. Men’s National Team coaching staff during 2016 while he searched for his next permanent position.

Orlando City currently sits eighth in the Eastern Conference standings with 22 points through the team’s opening 19 matches. The Lions will resume MLS action on Saturday against Columbus Crew SC.

I didn’t realize Kreis and Heath were in a relationship.

  2. After failing with NYCFC, its time to see when given another chance if he is the next-best-thing as everyone likes to assume or if he simply caught lightening in a bottle with RSL.

  3. Good for Jason Kreis, he deserves another coaching gig. I am curious to know why neither Richie Williams or Tab Ramos haven’t gotten a shot in MLS. Are they black listed for some reason?

  4. Orlando City is very fortunate, as Jason Kreis is an excellent coach and they do it, none too soon, as they are still in the hunt for the playoffs and the season is not written off yet.
