Report: Terrence Boyd set for RB Leipzig return

Terrence Boyd RB Leipzig 1

After a terrible string of luck in the injury department, it appears U.S. Men’s National Team forward Terrence Boyd is ready to get back out on the field.

Boyd has reportedly been training with Anja Strobel, a founding member at club team RB Leipzig, as he prepares to return to full practice with the squad. The 25-year-old is expected to meet with the club’s medical staff and head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl in the coming days before resuming first-team training.

The 25-year-old has missed significant time for both the national team and Leipzig after tearing his ACL back in December 2014. Boyd had completed a move to the German club earlier that summer and has only appeared in seven matches due to injury.

Boyd’s knee injury has been prolonged after the USMNT forward suffered a setback in October 2015 during the rehabilitation process. A cyst was removed from the player’s knee, but he now seems ready to return.

  2. This is awesome! Wishing TB the best of luck and hope he comes back stronger than ever. The USMNT could really use an in-form Boyd.

  3. Other injury updates Lynden Gooch is back training with Sunderland 1st team after a season ending injury last year, Cameron Carter-Vickers also training with Spurs 1st team, and Rubin (who played some at the end of last season) has started first two friendlies for Utrect.

Not a injury related but Russell Canouse signed a 2 year loan deal with Bochum in the 2.Bundesliga as well.

      • I believe they were an amateur or semi-pro side though, I could find no mention of the team on a couple of world soccer sites. My google wouldn’t translate their website and I don’t read Dutch so not certain on that.

      • Rubin scored twice within the first 10 minutes, but the team they were playing did look like a local pub club based on their uniforms, stadium, and skill level.

  4. really hope he’s healthy and won’t have another setback. having yet another option up top is great! first time in a while we have this many quality, attacking options:

Dempsey, Wood, Zardes, Morris, Jozy, AJ, Boyd, Pulisic, etc.

also looking forward to Gyau getting back out there but have to wonder if he would actually be in direct competition with Pulisic at BVB.

One of the best “abilities” is availability and right now you can’t count on Gyau remaining healthy.

Gyau has been injured far too many times in recent years to be any kind of realistic threat to Pulisic. He looks to be an outstanding athlete, but like Boyd, let’s see him put together a meaningful campaign absent of significant injury before we anoint him of anything other than hype.

    • I think Gyau looked very good for the US in his few appearances but I don’t think Dortmund ever really rated him as highly as they do Pulisic.

      • for sure. but we cannot pretend he didn’t get a few first team minutes before his injury. he was making strides. besides, he’s 5-6 years older than Pulisic so obviously BVB rates Pulisic higher. doesn’t mean they wouldn’t compete. and my main point is that in the scenario Gyau made it back, did well, and started getting first team looks, it would seem he would be competing for the same spot as Pulisic. just an observation more than anything.

    • Calling someone in that has a nagging injury to monitor/assist their recovery and fitness bringing them up to speed with the intent of playing them in an upcoming match(es) is vastly different than calling someone in that hasn’t played any significant soccer in almost two years.

I think the players and staff revere this kid for his ability, effort and attitude but fans need to get a grip with reality and have patience. Unless he has some miraculous Adrian Peterson any talk of the national team should be non-existent. Let him get healthy and put together a few days, weeks and months of healthy training (or even…matches) before this arm-chair nonsense starts back up.

      • Chill dude, the game is in like almost 3 months. That is plenty of time for him to get in the swing of things if he is getting time. You act like the friendly is next month. LOL!
