The post-Sigi Schmid era begins this weekend for the Seattle Sounders.

Since the club’s inaugural season in MLS in 2009, the Sounders have only had Schmid at their head coach. The 63-year-old Schmid, however, mutually parted ways with the club on Tuesday and assistant Brian Schmetzer will assume the role of interim head coach ahead of Sunday’s home fixture against the LA Galaxy.

The Sounders have lost twice to the Galaxy this month already, with a 1-0 loss coming on July 9 in league play and a 4-2 defeat on July 17 in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup.

Most other MLS fixtures will take place on Sunday due to the All-Star break. New York City FC and Colorado Rapids, however, provide the lone fixture on Saturday. NYCFC looks to bounce back from a difficult 4-1 loss to the Red Bulls while the Rapids look to extend their 15-match unbeaten streak.

Elsewhere, International Champions Cup and a couple of club friendlies get the fans geared up for the return of European soccer. Tottenham will face Atlético Madrid on Friday while Arsenal, fresh off their MLS All-Star game on Thursday, will take on Chivas de Guadalajara on Saturday.
