Another club has reportedly joined the pursuit of DeAndre Yedlin.

Yedlin is reportedly attracting interest from Championship club Aston Villa, who is weighing a move for the 23-year-old Tottenham fullback, according to the Telegraph. The fee being reported is £3 million ($3.95 million) as Villa needs a new right-back. Yedlin and Leicester City’s Richie de Laet are the top candidates after the American was given clearance to leave Spurs this summer.

Yedlin has been a wanted man throughout the transfer window, with two other Premier League clubs linked with the defender. Sunderland manager David Moyes recently stated his interest in the fullback, while Premier League side Hull City and Championship club Derby County also reported to be among his suitors. Meanwhile, reports in Turkey have linked Yedlin with a move to Trabzonspor, who recently signed winger Fabian Castillo from FC Dallas.

The ex-Seattle Sounder is coming off a strong season last year with Sunderland, where he started in 21 games.

What do you think of the latest Yedlin link? Which club would be best for the USMNT fullback?

  1. I feel like I’m in some alternate universe because I am actually rooting for him to end up at…. Sunderland. I don’t how I am supposed to feel about that because I’ve always dreaded having to watch those games.

  2. Quote clearly the worst of his options to have emerged so far. He’d be better off rotting on Spurs bench. He’s already proved he’s premier League calibur. Throwing him into a team with no semblance of team defense – simply shambolic defense to be exact – will not help him, quite the contrary. Unless villa are favorites for promotion and will regularly play winning football, he must avoid Villa at all costs. Losing culture can destroy players. Again, he’s already proven he’s prem calibur. Go to Sunderland where Moyes has a proven track record of trusting americans – a very very rare commodity in respectable European managers. Simple as that.

    • Agreed, there was some anti-american sentiment towards Guzan when an erroneous press report linked him to an incident involving AV fans, and of course Ellis, the former American owner. Going to an lower division club is a risk as the loan agreement usually contain a buy clause and you could remain in the club in the lower division permanently should they exercise the buy out of the loan, or worse, go deeper should they be relegated again. Most pundits put AV “not likely” to gain promotion back to the EPL this season.

      • Bottle caps, what are you talking about, most pundits have them as not likely to go back up? Have you seen This teams roster, it is easily one of the strongest in the championship. And how many coaches in the championship do you think have won a uefa champions league trophy? Oh brother!!!

    • i think not playing at Spurs is better than maybe playing at Aston Villa. AV was run asunder by a poor owner (who unfortunately was American). It will be a while before AV gets back to the top flight.

It would be much better if he could go back to the leaky EPL side of Sunderland. Perhaps with another american defender if SBI is right.

    • Is that referring to Villa fans?
      If so, that’s rubbish.
We just don’t like players on top dollar looking like they don’t give a toss, while playing games with chewing gum on the bench. And telling fans to F*ck off when they complain about it.
      And just being utter rubbish.

      • Sounds like your fans need to watch the game and stop watching the sidelines.

Here in America, when we pay to go to matches, we actually watch the product instead of watching what they do with chewing gum products.
