The English Premier League season kicks off today, with Everton and Tottenham squaring off in the match of the day, while eight countries look to move a step closer to Olympic gold.
The Ronald Koeman era begins at Goodison Park with a visit from Spurs. Romelu Lukaku is injured for the Toffees, but Ross Barkley will look to lead Everton to a winning start to the new campaign.
In Brazil, Portugal and Germany square off in a clash of Olympic gold medal favorites. Honduras is the lone remaining CONCACAF team, and faces the same South Korea side that eliminated Mexico from the competition.

Sunderland need to take Yedlin and Miazga on loan. Love was awful today and Kone could be on the move.
Was pleased with Gooch today. Didn’t look out of place, great work rate, attacked his man 1v1 and put in some good crosses. Nice debut. Should continue to get time.
Concerned about Guzan. He can’t stay at Boro as the #3. Could be a disaster move for him if that remains the case
I second this sentiment.
Let’s get all the young Americans on one team. At least with Sunderland we know they’ll get time.
Move along, nothing to see here. Sunderland lose an EPL game…
Where was Gooch playing exactly?
He kinda drifted around but started as a dual CM but traded wth rodwell to play outside mid and it looked like he made a couple runs into the cam spot
Gooch looks like he belongs. Some nerves here and there as expected. Yellow card before half; weak call. Player barely knicked.
With kone seemingly leaving this window, I wonder if moyes is using this first match to showcase him and also to see some bench players get a start
Welp, I was a few minutes late turning on the game…..
Guess what happened already…
L….O……L……
Fabian Johnson getting ready to come on as a sub for Gladbach against Lazio. CBS SPORTS NETWORK.
“Out of position” at fullback? lol
He came in as left back but now switched to right mid.
MADNESS!!! fire that coach! Haha jk
nah, he’s completely comfortable there, as well as most of the outfield positions. centerback and striker (maybe d-mid) would probably be the only time he’d be considered out of position.
Yea I was just poking at JK haters that use “he plays FJ out of position at fullback” as ammo for their incorrect narrative 🙂 haha
I don’t recall people saying JK shouldn’t play Fabian at fullback. Obviously many players can play multiple positions. That doesn’t JK shouldn’t be called out when he plays people where they’ve rarely (or never) played before. Sounds like a straw man you’ve created because defending JK based on his record isn’t possible.
Not as harshly as some because the options at LB are so slim, but it certainly happens. I think DLOA is just pointing out these guys are professionals and are able to move around without completely losing their minds.
“I don’t recall people saying JK shouldn’t play Fabian at fullback.”
Surely it never happened if you don’t remember it……….. Not only did many say (and still claim) that, they said he should be fired for playing FJ at fullback…..fired…… For playin Fullback at fullback?
With that said, as someone reported he was again at fullback I just wanted to mockingly point it out for people who seem to forget facts when they claim things. None of this is directed at anyone rather just towards that ideology
CCV on the bench for totenham. No yedlin tho. What’s the latest on him?
He’s property of Spurs as of now. Hopefully a loan to come in the next week or so.
Sadly, however, it appears my Sunderland stay has been extended… GOOCH gets the start today…..
L…….O…….L……
(It has begun…)
I missed the game….How did Lynden look in the start?
My crystal ball is in the shop…. The game starts in 30 minutes 🙂
another goddamn american starting for goddamn sunderland. i’m never going to be done with this goddamn team.
as always, you’re doing the lord’s work, dloa. how’s he looking?
nvm, just saw your comment below
