  1. We are twelve days out from the next qualifier in Kingstown.

    Forwards: Wood, Dempsey, Altidore
    Midfield: Bradley, Nagbe, Bedoya
Defenders: Johnson, Brooks, Birnbaum/Cameron if healthy, Yedlin
    Keeper: Howard

Reserves: Guzan, Bingham, Villafana, Cameron if healthy or Gonzo, Orozco, Besler, Gooch, CCV, Green, Kitchen, Zardes, Pulisic

No Jones because he hasn’t played since July 9, no Wondo and Becks do I need to say why, no Morris although you could send him to St. V&G and save the travel on Jozy or Demps, likewise Finlay could make the island journey as well, Castillo hurt, Lichaj and Ream not playing a lot early for clubs, Miazga got like 5 minutes all preseason, AJ and Boyd not fully fit, Rubin not scoring for Utrecht. Could bring Morales, Williams, Trapp or Acosta for Kitchen doesn’t make a difference to me.

Why Gooch: Cap tie him reward him for his earning a spot in the BPL. CCV the same if we can drop them in late a la Miazga in the first St VG game all the better if its close we’ll get them later, like if TnT beats Guatemala and the final qualifier is an exhibition.

  2. Btw, Sunderland RB looked Terrible. Got megged, gave up a goal and looked generally a class below.

One publications match rating even mentioned how desperate they were for a RB. WIth the further injuries to their defense tgis could help them spend some money to bring yedlin back in. Also Miazga to Sunderland seems way more likely. Yedlin,Miazga and GOOCH possibly teaming up would be really cool

    • Didn’t see the match but another publication had Love as the third best player for Sunderland.

Did Gooch play centrally, the site also had him underneath Defoe instead of out wide like last week? (But that would be crazy right, how could he ever understand how to play two different positions? Sunderland, LOL, everyone knows a player can only ever play the first position they ever played.)

      • If it was roker report or Sunderland Echo then I’m not sure how trustworthy it could be lol.

GOOCH started wide but when oshea came out injured they moved rodwell to Cb and GOOCH into the middle. I think he finished last week’s game similarly. He honestly looks like a younger bedoya lol. Nothing over the moon about him but works hard, knows where to be, digs in and can create

  3. Gooch has been solid, but he must show a bit more to continue to warrant a spot in the starting 11 once Seb Lar and Cattermole return to full strength. Simple as that really. Love his tenacity and bite in the tackle. I was surprised that DM took Watmore off instead of Gooch, as Watmore was really Sunderlands primary danger man on the day with his pace and willingness to run at defenders with and without the ball. Gooch also struggling with fitness through the full 90 at this point. Nonetheless just happy to see an American starting in a premiership midfield, especially so young and after working his way through that clubs academy.

  4. I’ve really been impressed with Gooch. Sure his technical ability could use some work but he certainly doesn’t look out of place and you’d never know this is his second professional appearance.

  5. Gooch with a strong tackle to win the ball at midfield, and then a great run to beat several defenders to set up a shot that was blocked. The commentators were full of praise.

  6. Good start for the Yanks Abroad today…
Gooch gets the start again for Sunderland while Guzan is starting in goal for Middlesbrough.
