USWNT announces October friendlies vs. Switzerland

Soccer: Post WWC Tour-Haiti at USA

The U.S. Women’s National Team has scheduled a pair of friendlies against one of Europe’s rising teams.

The USWNT will twice face Switzerland on Oct. 19 at Rio Tinto Stadium and on Oct. 23 in Minneapolis at U.S. Bank Stadium. The matches will be the first for the U.S. following the completion of the NWSL season. The USWNT hasonly faced Switzerland twice, winning the first meeting, 4-1, in 2014 before shutting out the Swiss, 3-0, in 2015. Switzerland is currently ranked 15th in the world.

Prior to taking on Switzerland, the U.S. faces a pair of September friendlies. Thailand will serve as the USWNT’s opponent for a Sept. 15 friendly in Columbus before the U.S. hosts the Netherlands in Atlanta three days later.

What do you expect from the friendlies? Who would you like to see called up?

  1. I would like to see Sam Mewis get a LOT more time at a Center Midfield position. I would also like
to see some of the top NWSL players who are scoring goals get a shot also. I am concerned that the USWNT is not scoring the amount of goals they should based on the number of shots on goal.
What we need is another Annie Oakley up there on the front line. I’m getting tired of seeing the vast majority of shots doing little more than providing a possible souvenir for those sitting in the
    goal line seats.
