Yedlin out, Carter-Vickers in Tottenham traveling squad

One American is conspicuously absent from Tottenham’s latest traveling roster, while another is set to join the team on its next preseason trip.

DeAndre Yedlin was not named to Tottenham’s 24-man roster for an upcoming friendly match against Inter Milan in Oslo, Norway. However, Cameron Carter-Vickers was included in the squad, joining Spurs regulars like Dele Alli, Moussa Dembele, Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris.

The absence of Yedlin comes after the U.S. Men’s National Team fullback previously joined the team for a trip to Australia for a pair of matches against Juventus and Atletico Madrid. However, Yedlin has recently been the subject of increased transfer rumors, as Sunderland manager David Moyes stated his interest in signing the 23-year-old speedster.

Yedlin spent the 2015-16 season on loan with the Black Cats, racking up 23 appearances for the club throughout a relegation battle. Prior to the start of preseaon, manager Sam Allardyce departed the club, but it appears Moyes retains interest in sealing a move for Yedlin in the near future.

At Spurs, Yedlin would be competing with the likes of Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier for fullback minutes, and both are included on the latest Tottenham roster. However, manager Mauricio Pochettino recently played Yedlin at the left back position, where he would hypothetically compete with Danny Rose and Ben Davies.

Tottenham take on Inter Milan on Friday in their final preseason friendly.

What do you think of the news? Expect Yedlin to move soon?

    • Yeah, it really destroyed Claudio Reyna’s career who was named to the World Cup All-Tournament team while playing for Sunderland….

  1. I think this means the sale to Sunderland is only a matter of agreeing to a price. Better there playing than sitting on the Spurs bench.

  2. Yedlin to Sunderland deal must be done. Good thing as he would sit all year.

CCV has me excited. Kid has the tools to be a dominator.

  3. Teams do not normally “sit” players on rumors, usually they have to a bona-fide offer or written communication to his agent or the club for them to take him out of action. OR, Pochetttno want’s to evaluate the fullback position a bit more by bringing in players who did not go to the other preseason gamesn Australia. The fact that Yedlin played out of position at a left back, is interesting as it shows that the coach’s mind is not made up about who he will keep at fullback this season. But interest from other teams for a player who may be surplus to your needs will certainly have a bearing.

    • Poch already left out a few players on the Australia tour who still haven’t been transferred but were given their marching orders. Njie, Bentaleb, and Chadli (all solid player I might add) were all left and all look to be transferred. Yedlin being left out is a good sign he’s going not in the teams plans this year. But I don’t think that means Yedlin is definitely going to be sold, hopefully just another year long transfer to develop.
