Christian Pulisic earned time as a substitute, but two different Americans stole the show with goalscoring performances on Friday.
Andrew Wooten and Jerome Kiesewetter each scored goals with varying results to headline Friday’s Americans Abroad. Wooten’s finish earned his side a late point, as the Sanudhausen forward netted a stoppage time equalizer in a 1-1 draw. Kiesewetter was a bit less fortunate, scoring a consolation goal in a 2-1 loss to Eintracht Branschweig.
After starting the last four matches, Pulisic entered Friday’s win as a late substitute as Borussia Dortmund cruised to another victory in a clash with Freiburg.

Last year when Pulisic started getting minutes at Dortmund, I still thought Kiesewetter was better.
I think the US coaches thought the same. Probably still struggling to see past that measureables bias we have when it comes to our athletes. Jerome “looks” more athletic with his size and strength so he must be better if everything else seems equal.
I think Pulisic set himself apart with our youth teams even earlier than JK. People kind of forgot about CP for a year or two since he got taken in by a club with such a good developmental academy and subsequently fell out of the regular picture with the USSF academy. It became far more important to let him work through that club and it seems to have paid off.
I still think Gyau could be a world class player, too.

They have some veterans that have been with the team at least a couple of seasons, that he is behind right now. That was his first goal of the season so its not like he’s dominated and can’t get a start. Plus you are probably right about rust having not played the second half of last season.
