The UEFA Champions League returns on Tuesday, and several Americans could take the field on what should be a busy day.
Among the more likely participants is Fabian Johnson, who will look to lead Borussia Monchengladbach to an upset of Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. The U.S. Men’s National Team fullback was rested over the weekend, meaning he should be ready to go in a crucial group stage opener. Elsewhere, Julian Green could see time as Bayern Munich takes on Russian side Rostov, while Gedion Zelalem is almost certainly going to be a spectator as Arsenal faces French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain.
In England, the Championship returns with a full slate of midweek games, headlined by a clash between Danny Williams’ Reading and Jonathan Spector’s Birmingham City. DeAndre Yedlin and Newcastle also return to action against Queens Park Rangers, while Tim Ream, Luca de la Torre and Fulham face Burton Albion.
Finally, Omar Gonzalez’s Pachuca takes the field in CONCACAF Champions League action, while Jorge Villafana looks to help lead Santos Laguna in the Copa MX.

He (Green) has to earn it. He will be a better player if he pushes the manager into playing him because he is pushing himself into the fore of one of the worlds best clubs. Don’t give him anything … Let him earn it!
Bayern up 4-0 in the 60th minute. Green not subbed in. That kind of says it all.
While it is impressive that Green has been making the game day 18, I’m very disappointed that he hasn’t seen a single minute yet. Today would have been a perfect opportunity to give him some token field time. If this continues he really should look to go out on loan during the January window. He needs competitive games if he’s going to move forward in his development.
