Aron Johannsson may insist his dismissal over the weekend was miscommunication, but the U.S. Men’s National Team forward is still set to miss time due to suspension.

Werder Bremen announced on Tuesday that Johannsson has been suspended two matches and fined ā‚¬8,000 after being sent off in this past weekend’s 4-1 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach. As a result, Johannsson will miss Wednesday’s home match against Mainz before sitting out a visit from Wolfsburg over the weekend.

After providing an assist earlier in the match, Johannsson was sent off in the 80th minute of this weekend’s loss for language aimed at refereeĀ Tobias Stieler following what the forward perceived as a handball. According to Johannsson, his shouts were misinterpreted as an insult towards the official, prompting a straight red card.

Johannsson missed nearly all of the 2015-16 season due to injury. The forward has scored one goal in three appearances to start the Bundesliga season. Werder Bremen recently fired manager Viktor Skripnik following a winless start to the season.
