Stoke City has been nothing short of abysmal to start the Premier League season, but Geoff Cameron isn’t ready to give up on the club’s manager any time soon.
The Potters enters the weekend sitting firmly in last place with just one point through five games. In those five games, Stoke has conceded 14 goals while scoring just three, making up the worst goal differential in the English Premier League by a five-goal margin. The start is the Potters’ worst ever, while the club is now in danger of losing five in a row for the first time since the 2004-05 season.
Cameron has started in several positions for the team this season, but has mainly been deployed in defense with two starts in the center to go with one at fullback. Most recently, the U.S. Men’s National Team defender was played in a midfield role as Stoke lost, 2-1, to Hull City in the League Cup. In total, Stoke has lost Cameron’s last four starts by a combined score of 11-2.
“We are all happy with Mark Hughes and the staff,” Cameron said, according to the Stoke Sentinel.“They are fantastic and over the last three years we’ve been a top 10 club. He [Hughes] has changed the whole idea and philosophy of the club and I think it is on the up.”
“You go through bad spells, good and bad, but most of the time we are a consistent team and we are team to be reckoned with. Right now it is not a great time but saying that we have a ton of games left to change that around.”
Stoke City returns to action this weekend against West Brom.

You do realize that would be bad for team moral, and would leave bad tension between Cameron and the coach. Come on Rob, use common sense! Sigh!
Without being well informed of the Stoke situation, it looks very strange how their defense has collapsed since it is basically the same back line for the last couple of years. Their regular GK is out, could that make such a big difference? Anyway, Mark Hughes, first with Blackburn, later with Fulham and now with Stoke, has an excellent record with getting the most out of teams that are around mid table or worse.
