It didn’t take Landon Donovan long to return to his goalscoring ways.

The MLS’ all-time leading scorer fired his first finish since his return in Sunday’s match against Sporting KC. The LA Galaxy forward’s goal came in the 76th minute, just two minutes after the forward entered the match for Raul Mendiola. In total, it took Donovan just nine minutes over two gamesĀ to fire his first goal.

Slipped in by Robbie Rogers, Donovan’s finish was first-time, as the 34-year-old star placedĀ a shot past Tim Melia and into the far post.

The goal was Donovan’s 145th career finish.

Here’s a closer look at Donovan’s finish:

  2. Well struck a very nice goal, but come on KC the all-time goal scorer in US National team history and MLS and you just leave him alone running into the box. You didn’t deserve three points today.

JP Dellacamera is like Chef Boyardee to me, you know its bad, but since you grew up with it you still stomach it because it makes you feel a little nostalgia.

    • At a certain point in life you realize how unhealthy Chef Boyardee is and simply stop eating it.

JP might be a great man and he’s been a champion for soccer in the country, but all I hear is a hockey announcer and he’s absolutely dreadful to listen to.

  3. He took his chance well and part of being a contributing forward off the bench is making the most of the few chances you will get. I don’t expect him to start rolling off a streak of matches scoring multiple goals but I think we can now say as he gains more match fitness that it will be fair to expect Donovan subbing in to help change games and potentially turn 1 goal losses into ties and ties into 1 goal wins.

  4. He looked totally different today than during his first game. A week of training has certainly done wonders. At one point, he tried to blaze down the sideline to beat a defender to a ball as he did so many times before, but that part of his game is clearly not back yet. But he was clean on the ball, hold up play was solid, and he helped to kill the clock.

This 20 minute shift and goal will do nothing to lower people’s expectations…

Since people love to exaggerate on this site, I will join in. As I said, Donovan can roll out of bed after two years and still be better than guys like Wondo, Zusi, and Bedoya (players Klinsmann still calls to national team).
