  1. Watching Chandler play with Frankfurt is interesting. He’s definitely not as quick and explosive as Yedlin but he is fast when he gets at full gallop. He lives up-field and is always a big part of the attack. He always seems to get back defensively though. From RB he seems to be a way better crosser of the ball than Yedlin. Will be interesting to see what Klinsmann does with a now healthy Chandler playing every game in the Bundesliga and Yedlin now in the Championship and not starting all the time (yet).

    • With Chandler it always seems to be consistency and or motivation. He looks great one game and then gives little to no effort the next.

    • Chandler’s extended absence from the USNT due to injury & poor form will likely keep Yedlin as the starter for now. Yedlin has built up a working familiarity (chemistry) with Cameron, Birnbaum, Gonzalez & Bedoya that Chandler will have to overcome to become the starting RB.

We currently have depth at Keeper, CB, Forward, Center Midfield, & Wide midfield (work in progress but looking good). We’re just lacking Outside back & CDM quality depth to take this team to a next level.

  2. Pulisic lead BvB in sprints and crosses, was 2nd in intensive runs, and was third in distance covered and attempts on goal, and he’s now tied for 4th in the Bundesliga with 2 assists (bundesliga.com). He was rated 9.3 out of 10 by whoscored, behind only Castro who had 2 goals and an assist, opposed to CP’s 2 assists and 1 goal.

  3. You guys still afraid to hype the kid? Still not convinced he’s one of our best eleven and one of our best 3 attackers at forward or midfield?

    • I still laugh at when people said: “prisoner of the moment” with Pulisic when many of us were relaying what our eyes saw. The “kid” is a complete pro well beyond his years.

      • I actually read somewhere someone was comparing him to Freddy Adu. I laughed for a solid minute. I think our developmental targets have been off for a long time and people are still adjusting. We seem to treat players like their prime years are their late 20s and early 30s instead of their late-teens and early/mid 20s like most of the top powers do.

      • A vast majority of players aren’t in the start of their prime “in their late teens”. Your first part is right, but that’s do to the old American model of high school/local club, then college, then to MLS. As more Americans head to Europe at 18 to join professional clubs and train on a daily basis, the timeline will advance. Or if MLS actually puts some work and money into their academies (minus Dallas of course).

      • “Prime” is more like 22-28 in my opinion but can be earlier or later depending on the individual. NCAA ball is a wasteland and no place for elite players. We are getting away from guys wasting their time in college ball. It’s great for lesser players who want to continue playing while getting an education but imagine someone like CP in college ball. What a waste of key developmental years.

Brad Friedel was just saying the same thing recently. We need to understand that a 24 year old soccer player is not “young”.

      • Yes, Johnnyrazor Ramon… I’m aware that the vast majority hit their peak years in their early 20s, I said as much, but if you target the elites, the best of the best, they pretty much are ready to start playing their top notch ball at 18-19. This is why the U20 WC is huge for scouts because it’s a true test of which players are ready to burst onto the scene. If you’re looking to develop those kids, they need to start even younger, more like 16. Not coincidentally, that was the age at which Pulisic began to stand out (that England game at the Nike tournament when he was 15 led to his current situation).

We’re expecting unreasonably lofty things from Pulisic precisely because he appears so poised to make that jump at the young, ripe age he is. This is when you see the Messi’s and Ronaldo’s start to stand above their peers.

  4. An assist for CP22!! He cleverly open up his defender on the wing and sends a low, driven nutmeg right through the legs and onto the foot of his teammate for the deflected finish. Great stuff from the youngster.

  5. I love how BVB players are willing to see a gap and just put their heads down and run at defenders and cause defensive havoc. It’s so rare in this age of lockstep tactics where no one is allowed to leave their spot for fear of getting caught out of place.

    • yeah, seems like tuchel’s following the “high risk, high reward” system from klopp’s days.

although it’s a lot easier when the other team is so bad that you don’t even have to worry about counterattacks.

  6. Pulisic breaks down Darmstadt defense with lightning dribble down the wing and leads to second BVB goal. He has a way of attacking that puts defenses on their heels and forces defenders out of place. He also just made a poor turnover. Oops. Reminder that he’s still a teenager.

  7. kind of torn between these two games. excited that pulisic is starting, but darmstadt is horrible, while ingolstadt is holding their own against bayern. guess i’ll try to watch both.
