Terrence Boyd returns to the field with RB Leipzig reserves

After nearly two years away from the field, Terrence Boyd took a major step on Sunday as he continued his road back from injury.

Boyd featured for the RB Leipzig reserves on Sunday against Lok Leipzig, marking his from an ACL tear suffered nearly two years ago. Boyd featured for 75 minutes before being substituted in his first match in 643 days.

The forward’s best moment came in the first half. Given a chance inside the box, Boyd struck a shot just wide of the target. Still, RB Leipzig U-23 coach Robert Klauss said the forward was “diligent and committed” while adding that it is only natural to struggle in a player’s first game back from an extended injury layoff like Boyd’s

“I’m glad I could be on the pitch again, but I was not happy with my performance,” Boyd said according to Kicker. “I could have, or maybe should have, scored a goal.”

“With my body, everything is top. My knee is feeling 100 percent again. The goal is now to push for a place again with the first team.”

The 25-year-old striker joined RB Leipzig in 2014 and scored two goals in seven appearances before his injury. RB Leipzig, meanwhile, is in the club’s first season in the German top division and is coming off a 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

  1. Awesome to hear; even with the strengthening forward situation with the US, you can always use more. I hope he continues to improve injury free.

I’ve been scowering the internet for any news on Joe Gyau but it doesn’t seem like he’s getting any time yet. Not making benches for BVB II or U19s. I hope he’ll get his chance soon as well.
