Several of the nation’s top programs have endured rough opening weeks of the 2016 season, but North Carolina has managed to avoid that on the way to the top spot in the SBI Top 25.

The Tar Heels held onto the top spot after posting their third straight victory, beating VCU to stay perfect on the season.

Clemson will look to hand UNC its first loss when the ACC rivals meet on Friday. The Tigers moved into the top five after a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Creighton that improved them to 3-0.

Notre Dame was the biggest mover in the SBI Top 10, climbing seven spots after a 5-0 thrashing of California. Bobby Clark’s men came into the season with lowered expectations, but a 4-0 start to the season has Notre Dame looking like a serious title contender.
