Didier Drogba’s saga took yet another turn on Wednesday.

The Montreal Impact forward missed training on Wednesday to meet with a doctor regarding a back injury. The news comes just days after Drogba refused to play in the Impact’s eventual 2-2 draw with Toronto FC after being named to the bench.

Following the match, Impact head coach Mauro Biello said that Drogba was dealing with tightness in his back before adding that the forward “was capable of playing”. Biello added that it wasn’t the injury that kept Drogba out, but rather that fact that the forward “didn’t accept the fact that he was coming off the bench”.

The issues between Drogba and the club have since been mended, according to Impact president Joey Saputo, who said that Drogba will accept anything asked of him as the Impact head to the MLS playoffs.

The Impact return to action on Sunday against the New England Revolution in what will be a crucial match for playoff positioning. With a win, the Impact could finish as high as fourth, sealing a home match in the opening round, while a loss could see the Canadian club fall all the way to sixth in the East.

  1. The dude is over the MLS and I don’t blame him. Get over it guys, he’s super old and isn’t happy anymore.

Newsflash, the MLS isn’t that great and it’s not for every retiring player to finish at. You get out what you put in to it and he doesn’t put a lot into it. You’re probably just mad because a legend took advantage of a weak league and pretty much got away with it.

You’re right, though. He did take advantage of the league (and continues to). But, he did start his Montreal career by scoring 12 goals within his first 12 matches, and finished last season above names like Robbie Keane (a name everyone deems to be the model DP of the league) in the golden boot race. To say nothing of his goal scoring ratio of 32 games and 21 goals since joining the club.

I also think it makes the league look comically amateur, too, at times with this type of nonsensical charades. Keep in mind, MLS is the one’s who called Montreal to see if they wanted to sign Drogba (not Montreal reaching out to Drogba) because they (MLS) didn’t want him in Chicago. When people question why MLS is dragged into ridicule, that’s another reason within the laundry list of reasons.

There’s a lot to ridicule about the situation, specifically MLS and their dire need to sign players that fit this profile, but to say he hasn’t “put in a lot” to his efforts or efficiency isn’t accurate or operating within reality.

      • I don’t disagree with you, I didn’t necessarily mean he doesn’t put in to it in terms of playing. When he’s on the field he is likely the best player there. I meant put into it in grander scheme of things over just work ethic. Him not showing he teammates, coach, and organization respect is what i meant by not putting a lot into it.

  2. LOL
Mls is such an ameteur league.
What did expect from a player that explicitly said he wanted to leave and you made him stay? No club ever wins that argument.

    • You’re saying that as if no other league has ever had a player with a big ego or ever had a player that refuses to suit up for a game before.

    • And you are such an ameteur troll. Amigo, that little right underline that pops up when you’re typing lets you know when you’ve misspelled a word. Take advantage of the wonderful tools freely offered by the Modern Internetz to make you look more educated…because, as you know, the last thing an instigator wants to do is look less than informed while he’s spewing endless scorn and invective from his mom’s basement!

Oh, nevermind, Roberto. Don’t mind me. Carry on.

    • I was paying Mls a compliment by calling it a league when in reality it’s just a company that organizes exhibition soccer games disguised as a competition. It’s international record and insecure fans more than proves this point.
